Fake id Security Features
Traditional security features used within identity and banking cards have relied upon the use of magnetic strips to hold information, embossed raised lettering, and signature panels for the user to sign. The increased availability of magnetic strip readers resulted in card details being easy to clone and transfer to a blank card to be used by the criminals.
Identification cards often hold additional holder information not displayed on the actual card itself, often stored on a datachip which can be visible or be embedded within the card itself. To read this information will require a suitable card scanner which might read the chip, or a barcode reader linked to the central server holding the holder information.
Custom Holograms
The use of custom holograms on identification cards is a difficult security measure to replicate as the holograms have to be specially produced for the industry (often governmental departments) in large print quantities to justify the high production costs in their manufacture. The latest hologram technology in use, incorporates the card holders information into the hologram, meaning each hologram is unique, again making replication almost impossible.

High definition printing
High definition printing is required to produce high quality novelty and fake id cards, this ensures security microtext does not become blurred and distorted, often a tell tale sign that a card is a fake, the lines and text should be crisp and clear. High definition printers are often able to use UV ink which is commonly used in driving licence production to print covert security features only visible with a black UV light, again many fake id cards will not include this level of detail.
